Literacy and Skills Development Workshop: Welcome

Celebrate International Literacy Day and Pass on a Skill

"Beyond its conventional concept as a set of reading, writing and counting skills, literacy is now understood as a means of identification, understanding, interpretation, creation, and communication in an increasingly digital, text-mediated, information-rich and fast-changing world."

UNESCO's International Literacy Day has been celebrated annually for over 50 year and is an opportunity for communities around the world to support and promote literacy and help improve living standards and eradicate poverty. This year's theme, 2018, is "Literacy and Skills Development"  and communities are encouraged to participate in promoting the acquisition of new skills that develop a broader literacy and support employment, careers and lifelong learning.  Skills to be explored include vocational, transferrable, technical and digital skills.
