ENGL101

In this workshop students will learn to evaluate different source types in information ecosystem (web and library). They are given known items to search for and evaluate.

When searching on the web, ask yourself these questions:

  • Where does all this information come from? Who produced it? How did it get on Google?
  • How does Google decide the order of the search results? Are there really millions of results?
  • Why does Google allow us to divide our results into categories such as News, Videos, Shopping, and so on? Why does Google provide search tools (e.g., publication date) and advanced options (e.g., site/domain searching)?
  • Given all the options, how do we decide what to click on? Which sources are reliable? Do we scroll through all the results?

Watch the video above to understand "how internet can be isolating you to the web of one", if you don't pay attention!
